Eagle’s Nest Camp, Pisgah Forest, NC

Eagle’s Nest Camp is a coed camp over 90 years old, located in the lush mountains of Western North Carolina. Eagle’s Nest Camp provides a joyful, nurturing community where campers finishing kindergarten – 11th grade are treated with respect and compassion. Campers have the opportunity to participate in 1-3 week long sessions which emphasize nature, arts, and community living. Our mission is experiential education for young people, promoting the natural world and the betterment of human character.

Wilderness Leaders will be responsible for working with the Wilderness Program Manager to plan and lead wilderness trips, traditional rock climbing trips, whitewater canoeing trips, Added Adventures, and Hante Adventure treks (See our website for trip details: www.enf.org). We offer adventures for children of all ages, grouped according to maturity and skill level. Participants learn a variety of intensive camping skills including food preparation, fire building, backpacking skills, and Leave No Trace ethics.

Instructors are responsible for the details of their trips, live with the participants during their time in camp and out in the field, and work with medical staff to prepare medical packs for treks. Wilderness Staff must enjoy living and working in the outdoors and have a passion for inspiring and mentoring children. Wilderness staff attend training clinics and all-staff orientation.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum age of 18 years with one full year out of high school. CPR and Wilderness First Aid certification or higher.

Hante Adventure Leader Candidates must have their Wilderness First Responder Certification. Training and experience with camping and backpacking skills.

Rock Climbing Candidates must have experience with traditional rock climbing techniques and teaching.

Whitewater Canoeing Candidates should be solid open-boat paddlers in Class II whitewater with experience in Class III water.

We also value certifications and training in areas including Leave No Trace, lifeguarding, natural and environmental science, paddling, and climbing.

Position is from June 4th to August 17th. In addition, some positions require attendance at a training clinic.
