Camp Starfish, Rindge, NH

Camp Starfish is a uniquely magical place where our staff provide a safe, fun, and skill-building therapeutic environment for children who have been unable to find success in more traditional environments. These children come to Starfish to experience being children without judgement and to enjoy the feeling of being part of a caring group, rather than being the odd one out.

Some of our campers have been diagnosed with anxiety, ADHD, learning disabilities (including NVLD), autism, challenges, sensory processing/ integration disorder, depression, bipolar, and other extra needs. What is unique about Starfish is that we have a 1:1 staff to camper ratio, which gives the campers the individual time they need to feel comfortable and successful in a new setting.

Staff participate with campers in traditional fun camp activities, like arts-n-crafts, swim instruction, boating, nature exploration, sports, drama, music, athletics, and more. We also have special events to look forward to each summer, like the Peace Games and Jamboree.

Being a staff member at Starfish takes a special type of person who is kind, patient, and high-energy: there is not a lot of private time at camp! You will be with campers and other counselors (or as we call them, Specialists) throughout the day, and sharing cabins at night. It’s a lot of work, but there’s nothing quite like the feeling of living and working with people who become like family.

Cabin staff and Camper Services Specialists help each child create goals that they would like to work toward during the season. Campers get individual time with their Specialists each night to go over these goals and discuss effort and progress, as well as award points toward individual rewards and group Milestones.

Because of the unique nature of Starfish, we go above and beyond to treat our staff members as individuals. During training you’ll join a mentoring group (called a Torchgroup) where you’ll find extra support and enjoy team-building activities with your teammates and Torchbearer. You’ll also participate in the Torchgroup Games, a sort of team-building Olympics that begins the first night of training!

If you feel called to join our team, please send in an application and join us for the most fun, challenging, and rewarding summer of your life!

Take it from our staff:

Camp Starfish is an absolutely amazing place to work! The staff is extremely hard working, dedicated, and will move mountains for the kiddos we work with. One of the best parts of being at Starfish is the relationships you build with your co-workers and friends throughout the summer. That being said, camp is also a lot of work. The hours are long, as are the days, and the summer. But it’s absolutely worth it. Being part of such an amazing place with such a great staff and group of kiddos is a magical thing!

Staff, 2019

This a great camp to work at. They have the experience set up for the campers to work almost 1 on 1 with a staff member, so you really get to for relationships with the campers. You are properly train for 2 week before the first campers come to prepare you to work with them. Overall the management takes care of you as a staff member.
